Frequently asked questions of the Records/Civil Department
GUN PERMIT Q & A

QUESTION: How do I "renew" my permit?  ANSWER: Effective October 1, 2009 PRIOR to renew you must telephone the
Sheriff's Office PRIOR to coming to the office. New procedures require you to make an appointment with the Administrative
Assistant handling weapons permits. If you do not do this you may not be able to renew at the office at that time.

QUESTION: Do I need a "Permit to Aquire" if I already have a valid concealed weapons permit? ANSWER: No, your valid
concealed weapons permit is all you will need.

QUESTION: What is the cost of a new concealed weapons permit? ANSWER: The new permit is $20.00 and each renewal will
be $10.00

QUESTION: How long is the permit good for? ANSWER: 12 months from the date of issue.

QUESTION: If my permit expires can I continue to carry it concealed? ANSWER: No, once it expires there is no "grace period"
and you could be sited by law enforcement or Iowa DNR if you are found to have an expired permit and carrying a concealed
weapon.
