Charitable Giving - Iowa Attorney General Advisory

 SCAM - O’Brien County - A local resident scammed out of $5,000 by a caller indicating they had won a  “prize from Publishers Clearing House.  All they had to do was send them $25,000. They did but then recalled the check and the caller phoned them back and ended up getting them to send a $5,000 check!

Utility Phone Scam - MidAmerican Customers

  March 19, 2015 - 17 Sioux City customers reported receiving a fraudulent call from someone pretending to be a MidAmerican Energy Company representative. Of the 17 calls reported, 7 were food distribution businesses. The other 10 were a combination of auto repair companies, tobacco shops, convenience stores, nurseries and individual residents. Scammers are trying to get money from customers by threatening service disconnection and demanding immediate payment via credit card or a prepaid debit card Green Dot card). Customers receive a call like this, they should hang up and call MidAmerican Energy right away at 1-888-427-5632 to verify the call’s origins.

MidAmerican Energy is asking for your help. Please share this information and the attached social media posts with your audiences in order to raise awareness and put a stop to these scams.
